Ireland's relationship with the European Union

Résumé

This lecture examines Ireland's relationship with the European Union. It sets out a 'standard' narrative about this relationship, and then presents an alternative perspective based on the concept of "nationalism in internationalism". It then presents the main periods of development of Ireland's participation in the EU, and proposes a three-form approach to understanding that development.
